The Rush

Our generation is characterized by speed; fast cars, fast internet and even fast foods. It seems the youth are being propelled to move faster than they are already moving. But what exactly is this rush for? Popularity, wealth, status, power or satisfaction.

This rush could have both negatives and positives, but it seems we are always seeing the negative sides.

The marriage fever seems to be catching the youth like the plague. The normal complaints; everyone is getting married, my mates from uni are mostly married or engaged, that ugly girl from SHS is married to a rich man with kids, then I too must get married at all cost.

The rationale behind marriage is not to show off neither is it compulsory to get married once you get to a certain age. It is a holy institution designed by God for a purpose. So yes marriage is good but why the rush.

Primary school children these days are engaged in amorous relationships because it seems to be the new norm and in the senior high schools it’s even worse. You are either kolo, anti-so or ancient when you do not have a boyfriend.

Relationships are not bad but you should have a clear cut purpose for getting into them with the focus being marriage. In Genesis 2: 23-24, ‘Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh’.

So when you marry the wrong bone and become joined with the wrong flesh, how do you become one? Marriage should not be rushed into it is a lasting covenant and must be treated with fastidiousness.

We tout the glory in us all the time but it seems sometimes we doubt that which is in us. We believe that by His stripes we are healed yet we go in for dubious remedies when we fall ill.

Its true God himself says we should eat the fruits and use the herbs to treat our sicknesses but that is not a free pass to test all herbal concoctions. You believe the healing power of God yet when you hear of this necklace, bracelet or anklet that can prevent any illness from befalling you; you never hesitate to purchase it.

You therefore end up rushing for ultimate heath when you’ve already got it all with the presence of Christ in you. So slow down, let your faith do the work. Seeking good health is never bad but be conscious of the power at work in you, He is the master physician.

Did you just see that or are my eyes deceiving me? OMG that’s the latest designer this from this fashion house, I must get one before its sold out.

Yes the fashion rush. Most times it looks like the ladies alone are so much into clothes, shoes, hairstyles and the latest trends in the fashion world but the guys are not left out. They also feel the need to maintain their bragging rights by sporting the latest in men’s fashion including perfumes.

The best and most beautiful things in life cannot be seen or touched, but are felt in the heart- Hellen Keller. Wanting to look good and beautiful is not a crime neither is being up to date on new fashion trends but to be totally obsessed with fashion icons and so engrossed in looking perfect just to be the envy of many is not desirous and worthy of emulation as a Christian.

Remember everybody should be respected but not idolized. The reason why birds are always happy is because they do not try to be like other birds. Be uniquely you!

Our heavenly Father is the richest man ever so as His children we are the richest on earth. Yet these same children of the richest man ever are rushing these days for wealth. Being wealthy does not mean having so much money and possessions only.

It’s what you bring forth. Your prosperity is not measured by what you have but by what you give. Going to extreme ends (sakawa, rampant killings and murders and kidnapping for rituals) to amass wealth that will be left here because it is corrupted. Bible admonishes us to build our treasures in heaven.

Your life is your story, write well and edit often for the more you leave out, the more you highlight what you leave in.

Set goals for yourself and be disciplined, it is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. Opportunities are like sunrises, if you wait far too long you can miss them. Stay focused!
