The Nothings.

Thank you Lord for nothing

Thank you Lord for something

Thank you Lord for all things

Thank you Lord for the small things

Thank you Lord for the big things

Thank you Lord for the huge things

Thank you Lord for the unexpected things

Thank you Lord for the expected things

And the list goes on and on

Cos we have endless things to be thankful for.

It is very natural and part of human nature to show gratitude for tangible things. Things we can make reference to, something that can be seen, that can be acknowledged.

We tend to thank the Lord for the big things. Surviving a terrible accident, a life threatening disease, coming back from the theatre (operating room), gaining admission to the dream school, getting married to the ideal person, giving birth and the list goes on and on.

And it is very natural to do so. It is instinctual to get excited and overwhelmed by grand gestures and very unsuspecting events.

There's always 'something' to thank the good Lord for. In the absence of these 'somethings' what will thanksgiving be for? If we don't overcome and survive the impossible will there be no cause to offer thanks?.

But what about the nothings? Yes. The 'nothings'!

For safely crossing the road, for narrowly missing that falling tree branch, for the small things.

Blessings are not only what we pray and hope for. The food on our table is a huge blessing for even in the richest countries in the world there are some people who cannot afford to feed themselves.

There are people without families, we are blessed with one either biologically, the family of believers or your friends. For the shoes on our feet, the cloths on our backs and the roof above us.

For the ability to walk, talk and laugh.

May we all find it within ourselves to cultivate the habit of giving thanks in the good and bad times, for the big and small moments.

To show genuine gratitude for the expected and unexpected things. To be able to appreciate the moment nothing is happening. Cos the God in the good times is the same God in the bad times.

To be able to say thank you Lord just to say 'thank you'. And so I'll start.

Thank you Lord. For nothing.

Cheers!
