Not Enough an Excuse.

...death is  not an excuse

Death as we know is inevitable. If Jesus tarries we all will surely die one day. When conversations about death come up or you lose a loved one what is your response and reaction.

I was in hearing range of a conversation between friends and one spoke about certain decisions she made because a friend died. I was so shocked, in fact still am but not deeply surprised.

People have different coping mechanisms when it comes to dealing with pain and sorrow. Some self-destruct, others shut everyone out and prefer to be secluded.

And my latest discovery, some people also create bucket lists. That is not even an issue, the contents and proposed resolutions made sometimes is what is alarming.

Like the conversation I overheard, a young person decided to ‘enjoy’ all the things the friend didn’t before dying since the friend died young and same could happen again, he or she wants to die having experienced life.

But why didn’t this youth decide to focus on building a career or leaving a legacy but was very invested in enjoyment. Is it because that seems more desirable in this generation? Just why?

Was there nothing worthy of emulation about this friend who died except that she lived a life devoid of ‘enjoyment’.

On the other side, there are a lot of people whose death motivated and encouraged the people around them in a positive way. Especially if the death was as a result of making bad decisions.

What am I saying?

The course of your life and its trajectory is your sole right to chart. How you draw your plan and the resources you consult to achieve it is also in your hands. No other person’s experience is responsible for the actions you take.

Death is not an excuse for ‘enjoyment’. It is an idle state that comes with no warning sign. Being preoccupied with fulfilling one’s self with certain ‘must dos and must haves’ is a choice and not a counter reaction to dying young.

A lot of us all justify our actions and decisions with concepts or blame others. Law enforcement officials' popular quote says, ignorance of the law is not an excuse. The absence of due diligence is not an excuse, poverty, tiredness, restlessness, lack of information and the host of loopholes used to justify ourselves is still not enough of an excuse.

We are being inspired today to take a second look at the path we have chosen to thread. Look carefully and critically and make an honest evaluation for ourselves.

No excuse is enough to justify a destructive decision. Death is not an excuse for reckless living.

Your life is your story, the more you leave out the more you highlight what you leave in.

For lack of knowledge…

Happy new month and welcome to December.

Cheers!

  1. Everyone has different purposes in life, so don't make someone's purpose your purpose. This what I learnt today

  3. There are indeed people obsessed with doing things their family or friends were unable to do, not only the dead ones too.
but we are all not carving the same path, the youth especially need to realize this
